Welcome to the web site of the Vermont Lincoln Bicentennial Commission

The year 2009 marks the 200th birthday of Abraham Lincoln. Governor Jim Douglas appointed a Bicentennial Commission to plan ways in which this important anniversary might be observed in the Green Mountain State. This site will direct you not only to a schedule of Bicentennial events in Vermont but also to the National Bicentennial site and to interesting facts about the life of our sixteenth president.

The Commission has planned these events without relying on the state for financial support. We hope and expect that many Vermonters will participate in one or more of these events. We welcome comments or suggestions or announcements of additional events that may be planned. These may be sent to John McCardell, Commission Chair, at mccardell@middlebury.edu.
